Researchers at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine drew on the TriNetX health records network, identifying 2,613,432 adults with COVID-19 and comparing 315,612 matched individuals with and without Long COVID across 15 cardiovascular, renal, and pulmonary outcomes.

Long COVID was associated with higher risk of most of these outcomes at all adult ages and in both sexes. Relative risks were disproportionately higher in younger adults, especially young women for cardiovascular and renal outcomes and young men for some pulmonary outcomes. Prior vaccination was not consistently associated with reduced risk. The study was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association after appearing as a medRxiv preprint.
